Congressman Chris Deluzio, who represents Pennsylvania’s 17th congressional district, posted a series of tweets on May 29, 2026, addressing issues ranging from abandoned mine lands in Pennsylvania to economic inequality and oversight of immigration detention facilities.
In a tweet posted at 14:55 UTC, Deluzio highlighted the environmental and public health challenges faced by residents living near abandoned coal mine lands. He stated, “1.4 million Pennsylvanians live within one mile of mine lands that coal companies abandoned. It’s time to clean up the mess they left behind. Read more about what @RepSummerLee and I are proposing to save folks money, protect public health, and restore the land we love” (May 29, 2026).
Later that day at 19:34 UTC, Deluzio criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies. He wrote, “Trump’s economy: a disaster for pretty much everybody except the very top.” (May 29, 2026).
At 21:58 UTC on the same day, Deluzio reported on an oversight visit he conducted with Representative Summer Lee to Pennsylvania’s largest ICE detention facility. He tweeted, “Yesterday, @RepSummerLee and I went to PA’s biggest ICE detention facility for an unannounced oversight visit. We learned that the large majority of the people in Moshannon are considered ‘low security’—people who haven’t been charged with violent crimes or conduct. People like” (May 29, 2026).
Abandoned mine lands have posed longstanding environmental hazards in Pennsylvania. The state has one of the highest numbers of such sites in the country due to its history as a major coal producer.
The Moshannon Valley Correctional Center is known as Pennsylvania’s largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility. Oversight visits by members of Congress have increased following national debates over conditions and transparency at these centers.
Economic inequality remains a significant issue in U.S. political discourse. Critics of Trump-era policies often cite tax cuts favoring high-income earners as contributing factors.
