JIM CHRISTIANA FOR SENATE issued the following announcement on June 30.

According to data released Tuesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls had at least one resident and staff member test positive for COVID-19.

BEAVER FALLS -- A fourth Beaver County nursing home has reported residents and staff testing positive for COVID-19.

According to data released Tuesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, a redacted number of residents and staff members tested positive for the virus at Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls.

The state redacts the number of cases of the novel coronavirus when it it between one and four, meaning that at least one resident and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19. Officials at Providence Care Center could not be reached for comment.

State data indicates that there are 160 residents at the facility, with a maximum capacity of 180. Federal data shows that, through June 14, one resident was suspected of having the virus.

A separate state database shows that three facilities have had residents or staff test positive for COVID-19. Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Brighton Township is the site of one of the largest outbreaks in the state, with a total of 332 residents testing positive and 73 deaths. An additional 109 workers have tested positive, according to data submitted by the facility to the state.

According to state data, two additional facilities, Concordia at Villa St. Joseph in Baden and Rochester Manor in Rochester, have reported fewer than four cases in residents. Villa St. Joseph has also reported fewer than four cases in staff members. Officials at both facilities have publicly said that one resident in each nursing home have tested positive, while Concordia officials said one staff member have tested positive.

State data shows there are no cases at the county’s personal care homes and assisted living facilities.

The new nursing home cases come on the heels of Beaver County’s highest increase in COVID-19 cases since May 4. State data on Tuesday showed the county had 18 new cases for a total of 669. Nate Wardle, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, said state officials are monitoring the spike of new cases across southwestern Pennsylvania.

“We are concerned over the increases in these counties, and are working to further determine how much is long-term care facility linked, how much is from known exposures, and how much may be from community spread in other ways, such as large events, potential for numerous exposures, etc,” Wardle said. “We are requiring facilities to report information to us, and do anticipate seeing more cases as universal testing uncovers asymptomatic residents. Universal testing is essential to determining the burden of disease among long-term care facilities.”
