Important News for Parents
PA has recently passed Act 66 into law, giving parents additional options!
Dear Riverside Families,
Act 66 of 2021 permits students who were enrolled during the 2020-21 school year to repeat their grade level. This option is made available to all students due to the disruption of education and potential loss of learning impacted by the pandemic. Enclosed is a link to important information about Act 66 of 2021, which was signed into law just days ago.
Fortunately, Riverside was able to provide 5-days-per-week instruction for this past school year. In fact, Riverside Elementary School was one of the few schools in the state that offered 5 days per week in-person instruction beginning in August of 2020. Even with the opportunities, we were able to provide to students last year, we know there may be some families who believe that repeating the year may be in their child’s best interest.
Should you, as a parent, choose to retain your child under the provisions of Act 66, you must first complete the linked form and email it to your child’s building principal no later than July 15, 2021. Once the form is complete, a meeting will be scheduled to discuss the goal for retention and a thorough outline of expectations for both the student and the family. The meeting and discussion are purely for the District to better understand your needs and to provide information to you about retention.
