On Nov. 16, five North Hills High School students participated in Westinghouse Electric's "Introduce a Girl to Engineering" event at the company’s facility in Ruffs Dale, Pennsylvania.
Katelyn Ebbert, Hannah Kreigline, Ava McElhaney, Mallory Pierce and Kaitlyn Wadowsky spent the day talking with and interacting with female engineers. They also stood in the dome of a nuclear reactor and learned about the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy.
"Introduce a Girl to Engineering" is hosted biannually by Westinghouse’s Women in Nuclear (WIN) Pittsburgh Chapter. The event aims to encourage young women to pursue higher education and provide them with an overview of the career opportunities available to them within engineering and other technical fields.
