Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. has announced the approval of a $563,970 state grant aimed at enhancing safety at a problematic intersection in Center Township, Butler County. The funding will enable the township to completely replace traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Route 8 and Beech Road to align with current operational and safety standards.
“When it comes to traffic, motorists want to keep it moving and keep it safe,” stated Vogel. “This grant will allow Center Township to upgrade a key intersection by improving traffic signal operation and safety features.”
The grant is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) program. This initiative seeks to enhance safety at intersections with signals by implementing automated enforcement in areas where red-light violations have been documented as an issue. Municipalities submitted 24 applications requesting a total of $33.5 million. Projects were chosen based on criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and both local and regional impact.
