Congressman Chris Deluzio, representing Pennsylvania’s 17th district, has shared his perspectives on tariffs and their impact on American workers through a series of tweets. Deluzio, who took office in 2023 succeeding Conor Lamb, addresses the economic and political dimensions of tariffs in his messages.
In a tweet dated March 7, 2025, Deluzio expressed support for "smart tariffs," particularly those targeting China. He noted that many of his constituents and Americans without college degrees favor tariffs as they are perceived as "a sign of political solidarity" by regions affected by global competition.
On the same day, Deluzio stated that opposing all tariffs suggests complacency with foreign labor exploitation at the expense of American workers. He emphasized that he does not share this stance, nor do most voters.
In another post from March 7, 2025, Deluzio criticized former President Trump's tariff policy as "chaotic and inconsistent." However, he warned against condemning all tariffs as it might alienate the Democratic Party from "hard-working people who used to be the lifeblood of the party" he argued.
