Rep. Martina White and the House Republican Policy Committee, led by Chairman Josh Kail, hosted a hearing in response to the Biden Administration’s blockade of liquified natural gas (LNG). The hearing, titled “Fueling Pennsylvania’s Future: Liquid Natural Gas,” featured testimonies from key figures in the industry.

During the hearing, White highlighted the importance of addressing the growing demand for LNG and the negative implications of halting new exportation. She emphasized the need to leverage Pennsylvania’s abundant natural gas resources to meet energy demands and support the economy. White stated, “Pennsylvania is on a direct path for an electricity crisis… Pennsylvania has an abundance of natural gas. Let’s meet the growing energy demand and put Pennsylvania to work for our state, our country and our world.”

Chairman Kail echoed White’s sentiments, emphasizing the positive impact of Pennsylvania’s energy resources on both the local and global levels. Kail asserted, “The world is a better place with Pennsylvania energy… If we want to grow jobs, build, reduce emissions, protect our country and others, then we must lift the ban on natural gas exports.”

The hearing featured testimonies from industry experts including Carl Marrara from the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, John Bane from EQT Corporation, and Rob Bair from the Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades Council. These experts highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of utilizing LNG, with Pennsylvania playing a significant role as the second largest producer of natural gas in the United States.

According to an economic impact report by the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, the utilization of natural gas has led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions since 2010. The report states that 500 million tons of CO2 emissions were reduced due to natural gas utilization, underscoring the positive environmental impact of LNG.

The hearing aimed to address the challenges posed by the blockade on LNG exports and underscored the importance of lifting restrictions to support job creation, economic growth, and energy affordability. To access the full hearing, interested individuals can visit pagoppolicy.com/video/policy.
