Senator Elder Vogel Jr. has announced that the Seneca Valley School District will receive a state grant aimed at educating students about Pennsylvania's agriculture industry, valued at $132.5 billion. As the chair of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Vogel revealed that the district is set to receive $7,500 from the Ag and Youth Grant Program. This funding will support the Living Laboratory and School Garden at Haine Middle School.

The initiative features an aquaponics system and practical activities centered on ecological principles, agriculture, life cycles, and nutrient cycles. The grant was part of the 2024-25 state budget passed by the General Assembly.

"Agriculture is deeply embedded in the history of our region, but the future of farming requires that we prepare the next generation to step in and keep the tradition going," stated Vogel. "I commend everyone involved in the Seneca Valley School District Living Laboratory and School Garden and I’m happy to announce this state support."

The Ag and Youth grants offer direct funding up to $7,500 along with matching grants up to $25,000 for projects benefiting youth or promoting agriculture-related activities such as community leadership and vocational training. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture administers this program.
